FEBRUARY’S BEST TRAVEL TIPS

Suggestions for custom tOURS:

  • Ice Skating Tour: If there is ice on the canals or lakes, contact me to take part in this ultimate of Dutch traditions. I can find out where it is best to go, where to rent skates and if we can combine it with a visit to a city in the surroundings.

Travel Tips:

  • There is one thing that Dutch people are praying for in February, and that is minus degrees so the canals and lakes will freeze. The Dutch have been skating the water the surrounds them for centuries and they still flock together on skates as soon as there is safe enough ice to skate on. If you are lucky (rare in the last years) then you can hopefully experience the pure joy the Dutch have for this activity. It is not uncommon for the talk in the office to only revolve around ice predictions in these days and people will take time off work if there is good enough ice to go skating.

  • Carnival in the Netherlands is maybe not as famous as the Brazilian Carnival, but the Dutch love it. The celebration is especially big in Maastricht and Den Bosch.

Some big events in The Netherlands in February 2020 are:

  • IFFR - International Film Festival Rotterdam - 22nd of January till 2nd of February 2020 - Since its founding in 1972, it has maintained its focus on independent and experimental filmmaking by showcasing emerging talents and established auteurs.
