MAY’S BEST TRAVEL TIPS
May in The Netherlands is the start of summer and festival season. It is also the end of the tulip season in the beginning of the month.
4th of May is National Memorial Day with memorial service at the Dam in Amsterdam with the King and Queen to commemorate all the fallen soldiers since the second World War.
5th of May is Liberation Day and there are often concerts and events in cities around Holland.
Are you an animal lover? Do you like hugs? Feeling stressed? Try hugging a cow (Koeknuffelen) in one of the many farms around Holland. Laying on top of a large cow while it is laying down, put your ear to its body and let the heavy breathing lull you to comfort. Mindfulness - done the Dutch way! One place to do it close to Amsterdam is at the B&B Kastanje Hoeve (25EUR for 2-3 hours).
Some big events in The Netherlands in May 2020 are:
Liberation Day (Bevrijdingsdag) - 5th of May - This is the 75th year anniversary, so the celebration will be extra big this year with free concerts and events all around the country.
Eurovision Rotterdam - 12th till 16th of May - Eurovision is one of Europes oldest, weirdest, campiest and fun events and this year its in Rotterdam! Expect lots of colors, music and fun.
Rolling Kitchen Festival Amsterdam - 20th till 24th of May - Get stuffed at this amazing food truck festival at Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam. Open from 13.00 till 23.00. It gets very busy during the weekend, so if you want to avoid too long lines I would recommend going during the day.
